Cherry Blossom Time 2017

the cherry blossom tree in Japanese is SAKURA.   The blossoms were late this year, or the city festival was early.   The blossoms are only slightly past their peak as of Saturday the 15th of April.   For any year when the rain and wind and the blossoms might have come sooner, the blossoms would be 90% gone by now.

Of course you know the blossoms are pink.   I found someone who was wearing pink at the center of my shot a couple of times.   Saturday and Friday we got bright sun, Thursday a little overcast.  Can you tell which shots were on a day with muted light?

Sometimes To Smoke a Cigar

Sometimes to smoke a cigar I go to the park
that is only 3 or 4 short blocks from our house.
Some people I observe, but there is no communication.
Dog walkers mostly but sometimes there are mothers with
their children.

Beyond my serious camera and my portable phone, I have
a 4/3rds digital camera, and I have read of that type that
it should be less intrusive similar to a Leica so
many years ago.

I was sitting on one side of a pavilion overlooking
a pond, and I shot the mother and two children who came
to watch the ducks. They did not pose and acted
like they didn’t know I was shooting.

Forgotten Photos

Here’s what happened: I started using the iPhone 6 for the go-everywhere camera because
the screen died on the Olympus Pen Lite E – PL5, Months later I find these shots from the park
from last July on the memory card. I don’t remember shooting those photos and don’t know the kids,
the baseball players, but I like the shots enough to revive this web site.

WHERE HAVE I BEEN?

this is the neglected blog, it was invented as a place for my photos

I had a camera that was less serious than the one I paid more for, but the iPhone took the place of that one.  Sometimes I don’t put images here but put them on faceBOOGIE.  Today my mood turns me in this direction.

We had breakfast at a cheap place just the other side of the park from our house.  Came back through the park by the name of Johoku Park.  There is a course of surfaces to walk on and thereby massage one’s own feet.

Then she said I should stand on this one that works on the arches – no problem.   See the shadow of my hand holding the phone as camera?

IMG_0704Do you say moth rather than butterfly if the color is dull.  Mother and son found it creepy.  It seemed injured.

Fan DAY (back in early August)

It ain’t easy being a Georgia TECH Yellow Jacket fan.  Early August of 2012, first son took Rocky and his
Daddy and the 2 grandsons to FAN Day

First grandson Caleb is out front in this shot.

Rocky thinks he is the ring leader, maybe.  Caleb and Nicholas are his nephews, but
he sometimes thinks of them as cousins

Posing with the starting QB Tevin Washington.

I think in their imaginations, they were the stars in a game.  Really, they were just running the field while
somebody was getting a little impatient.

Museum

We were on display in a photo in the Shizuoka Museum this past July.

Bruce is a cameraman which is what Japanese people often say for ‘photographer.’
This is how his system works:  He offers one very nicely mounted print in exchange for
his subjects acting as models. His theme became families as he visited Shizuoka.
His subject was parents and children for his previous book, and Oyako
became that book’s title.

Bruce Osborn is like me in as much as he has been married into Japanese culture for a while.
We respect his art, and maybe he will put us, as a family, into his next book.  However, I broke his
rules just a little by having someone at the museum take a photo of me in front of THE photo,
and I did some video.   Forgive me, Bruce.

the Annual Fire House Blessing

First Baptist Church (or the Baptist church) in Shizuoka, Japan OR the children of the church
every year visit the nearest Fire Station to say “thank you for protecting us.”   It is a new tradition for
this church, and the children seem to really enjoy it.   We pray for and sing to the firefighters and present
flowers to them.

I was really only shooting for the dark cloud. Driving and wondering where I could park just
long enough to get my shot. Found a place and walked onto the bridge that is just beyond Gran Ship
which is performance space here in Shizuoka, Japan.

We don’t usually get that kind of cloud nor the resulting thunder storm.
